Johnny's Alpine

At the top of the world, with the mountains aglow,
Stood [Johnny], appreciating the snowpeaks below.
What a journey he’d made, what a glorious view!
But [Simpsonville] was waiting, and Christmas was, too.

So he clipped in his skis with a click! and a cheer,
For home was still far, but Christmas was near.
Down the powder he flew with a whoop and a shout,
Then a sweet little tune came floating about.
Scene 3: The cabin (gift: compass)
Winds and snow storm coming, and retreats to a small mountain cabin. We'll have a compass icon on the page beside the cabin illustration. Footprints are seen leading away from the cabin as our character walks in.
He looked all around, but saw no one in sight,
Just pines, and a sky turning stormy and white.
Then the blizzard came roaring, all whiteout and gale,
Till a cabin appeared through the snow, small and pale.
Inside, on a table, a compass lay bright,
Pointing him on through the storm’s blinding white.
Outside in the drifts, as he turned to depart,
Were footprints, enormous, that gave him a start.
Scene 4: The dark forest (gift: matches)
Transition to a dark scene. Character warms up at a campfire with eyes glowing in the trees with music notes above. A book of matches is overlayed on the page.
The compass led on to a forest of pine,
Where the shadows grew deep and the sun hid its shine.
Two glowing eyes watched from afar, then were gone,
But the little song followed, and [Johnny] pressed on.
Then, there in a clearing, a campfire lay set,
With a book of matches, the best gift yet!
He lit it and warmed his fingers and toes,
And hummed along with the song as it drifted and rose.
Scene 5: The sunny ridge (gift: hot cocoa) plus the reveal!
Later that day on a ridge in the sunlight, a thermos sat steaming
With cocoa so rich he was sure he was dreaming.
Who was leaving these gifts, and who sang with such care?
He looked up, and there, in the glittering air...
...Stood a Yeti! Enormous, all shaggy and tall,
Yet gentle as snowfall, not scary at all.
Carol! The singer! The helper behind
Every gift on the trail he had happened to find.
Those eyes in the forest? Hers, watching him go,
To be sure he was safe in the cold and the snow.
She gave a big wave, then she slipped out of sight,
Her warm song still ringing, so soft and so bright.
Scene 7: The foot of the mountain.
The journey ends at the base of the mountain. The skier slides to a stop.
At the foot of the mountain, [Johnny] slid to a stop
And looked back at the peak, way up at the top.
And down from the ridge, clear and sweet as a bell,
Came Carol’s last carol, a Christmas farewell.
Next, on to [Simpsonville], where family would be,
And friends gathered round a bright Christmas tree.
But somewhere today, someone’s lost in the snow,
Or weary, or lonely, with nowhere to go.
A kind word, a meal, or a hand 'long the way
May be the greatest of gifts here on Christmas Day.
So be somebody’s Carol, and leave on their trail
A small gift of kindness, the heart of our tale.
